For seven years, photographer and psychotherapist Caroline Jensen has traveled back and forth between Stockholm and New York to photograph graffiti writers. Faces of Graffiti shows intimate portraits of writers that Caroline Jensen has established a deep and personal connection with.
The book portrays New York graffiti pioneers who began writing in the late 1960s, writers who grabbed the baton and established graffiti in Stockholm in the 1980s, and younger writers who have further developed the graphic design of graffiti.
To understand how graffiti affects writers’ lives, Caroline Jensen asked them about their driving forces. Rooted in her work as a psychotherapist, she reflects on self-development and the role graffiti plays in the lives of the writers.
Charmin 65, Nic 707, Riff 170, Rubin, Snake 1, Kaos, Shiro and Taki 183 are some of the artists portrayed in the book, accompanied by images of their graffiti art.
Caroline Jensen is a photographer based in Sweden with the world as her field. She is also a licensed psychotherapist with her own practice for twenty-two years. She combines her two professions with a deep interest in the process of change. Dokument Press has previously published her book Room for Therapy.

RACHE – THE ART OF RAGE was first published by “The Grifters” in 2017 and sold out in a few days. A reprint the following year was also quickly sold out. Due to constant demand, a third edition is now being launched just after 4 years and we are proud to finally be able to offer it in our shop.
The book is about the Hamburg-based writer RAGE and highlights on 288 pages his busy work on trains in the years 1998 to 2017. Especially in the last years, he has set completely new standards with his graphic and conceptual works in the train writing category. There is no need to write more about RAGE at this point, his works speak for themselves.

Some call it art others vandalism. For the members of the infamous RIS crew the label doesn’t matter. ROCKIN’ IT SUCKERS is the story of New York City’s infamous RIS crew in their heyday. New York in the late 80s: A city tormented by crack and violent crime. At the same time the golden age of hip hop was in full bloom, and despite the violence some found room for creativity. At this time a group of kids got together to taste the last of the city’s painted subway trains, just in time to experience a new era in New York’s graffiti history — The authorities decided to clean up the city and a zero-tolerance policy towards graffiti was instituted. While many of the city’s graffiti writers quit, the RIS crew was determined to keep the trains colorful and decided to wage their own war with the city.
As a result, they took over New York with style, and along the way influenced graffiti writers long way outside the five boroughs. The crack down from the authorities didn’t only trigger the RIS crew to write more, it also made them come up with faster techniques and develop their styles, all done with the crews’ characteristic arrogance and humorous touch. Soon they became one of the world’s most important and influential graffiti crews.

Markus Genesius, born in Bremen in 1974, is one of the important representatives of the second generation of the German graffiti and street art scene. After many years of worldwide activity under the alias WOW123, he shifted his focus towards contemporary art some time ago, without losing sight of his original roots. His path led him from the classic style writing of graffiti design to a stylistic development and his own new artistic language, with which he entered a different environment, that of traditional visual art.
Markus Genesius moves between urban art and the classical art scene and works in both fields in parallel. In his canvases he works on a mixture of constructive concepts and free, intuitive, gestural painting in the tradition of the Informel or the Abstract Expressionism of the 50s. In doing so, he creates dynamic, moving pictures in strong colors on the one hand and abstract compositions of minimalist appearance, compact free-standing figures or free geometric constructions of controlled dynamics, which are completely removed from these.
This book is the first retrospective overview to document the development of Markus Genesius both in the field of graffiti and urban art as well as the classical art business from its beginnings to the present day in many illustrations and to illuminate his work from various perspectives in texts by Ingo Clauß, Albert Darboven, Katharina Galladé, Ingmar Lähnemann, Rainer B. Schossig, Katerina Vatsella, Tat`s Crew NYC and Samy Deluxe.
